In Hollywood many actress receive rave reviews and even Academy Awards for their uglifying on-screen transformations, so it's no wonder more of them opt to gain weight or wear a prosthetic nose for a movie role. Actresses like Nicole Kidman, Charlize Theron, Renee Zellwegger, Cameron Diaz, Salma Hayek, Hilary Swank, America Ferrera have all had drastic makeunders in the past decade, and now two other leading ladies are ready to get ugly in hopes of earning a nomination.

First up is "High School Musical" star Vanessa Hudgens. She's shed some of her Disney image with the unfortunate release of racy nude photos, but longs for people to see her as a real actress. In the upcoming indie film "Gimme Shelter" Hudgens portrays a pregnant teen who is kicked out of her home and forced to live on the streets after she refuses to have an abortion (see picture at right).

"I'm so excited and proud of the work I've been doing and let me tell you, you all are going to be SHOCKED with how I look in this movie," Hudgens posted on her Facebook page. "It's crazy sauce." Her transformation into a homeless teen is a good one, but we fear this may play out more like a Lifetime movie than an Oscar-worthy flick.

Another actress attempting to ugly it up is Gwyneth Paltrow in the upcoming Steven Soderbergh film, "Contagion." The actress who once wore a fat suit for "Shallow Hal," will now play the victim of a lethal airborne virus and to do this she's given up her ultra-shiny hair and perfect complexion (see picture at right).

This is what Gwyneth Paltrow would look like on death's door... and it's not really that bad. But is it enough to land her at least a best supporting actress nod? We shall see.

Watch the trailer for "Contagion" below and let us know: should actresses gain extra props for not looking glam on camera? Or is a physical transformation, however large or small, all part of acting.
