Halloween Makeup: 7 Steps to an Incredibly Wearable Vampire Look

Choosing a Halloween costume

is only the first step in dressing up for the occasion. The second (and our favorite part) is the makeup to compliment the outfit. For a look that's both a tad scary and a little sexy, we present the Man-Hunting Vampire! Somewhat inspired by all the Vampire-laden TV dramas and a certain popular movie series, this makeup will surely get you noticed. (Not to mention, no gum-ripping plastic fangs are required!) Face
: Choose a foundation color that's two shades lighter than your normal skin tone. The trick here is to not look entirely washed out, but to just have that "deathly glow." We recommend combining two powders, (Try Sally Hansen Natural Beauty Loose Powders) since slathering on liquids can cause almost too much of a contrast and make you look like you face planted into a pool of bad foundation.

Eyes: Using a taupe eye shadow, (Try NYX 3-Color Palette) your goal is to create a "I haven't slept in days," effect. Our makeup artist blended this hue up into the eye socket crease, and also along the lower lash line. Watch the video here.

False Lashes: Falsies are a great way to ensure that you don't get raccoon eyes by the end of the night, plus they add major drama without loads of gloppy mascara. (Illamasqua has an extensive spread at sephora.com.) Watch as our makeup artist gives a detailed rundown on the prep work here. Next, see how to apply.

Mascara: The last thing you want is to make it obvious that you're wearing false lashes. Watch the trick to making your real set and your new set blend seamlessly here.

Brows: A strong brow is definitely an attribute to any vampire. For every-day brows, you would normally choose a pencil or powder that's a shade lighter than your natural brow hair, but for the sake of this look, you should definitely go darker. However, don't draw them on-you want to avoid "tattoo brows" at all costs. Related: See the tricks to creating the perfect bold brow.

Lips: To ebb on a matte finish that's more blood red than candy apple, our makeup artist took a cherry-red lipstick, (Try Maybelline ColorSensational Lip Color) and mixed it with some black eye shadow, (Try Cover Girl Queen Eyeshadow) to deepen the color. (You could go out and buy a deeper red, but we figure almost everyone has a red lipstick and black shadow.) The hybrid hue created a just-bitten effect, which she applied onto lips with a lip brush. Watch more on how to get this lip here.

Fina Touch:
For added drama, our makeup artist used a tiny bit of fake blood. When using this novelty, you want to let gravity take its course. Just a drop will do, and be sure to let it dry for a few minutes before you touch it. (Try not to laugh or smile since that might cause cracking or break up the bond with your skin.) Don't try to draw on fake blood, because it'll look too artificial.
