You know it's true, whether you like it or not: Fedoras are CUTE. But the most common question that potential summertime hat wearers have is what to do with the hair that peeks out, you know, how to make it not sweaty, frizzy or just plain BLAH. Several celebs--including Taylor Swift in the East Village yesterday, and Heidi Klum and Rose Byrne earlier this month--have been spotted sporting brimmed hats--but all with impeccable hair. And I'm willing to bet $$$ that when they take their topper off, their hair just sort of falls magically into place with nary a sign of hat head. While we can't steal Taylor's or Heidi's hairstylists, we can steal a cue from their looks.

Smooth it down: Here's the thing--since it's summertime, your scalp is going to sweat... and your roots might get a little greasy. (Or a lot.) But hey, don't fight it. Work with the humidity by slicking hair down with a boar-bristle brush, focusing on the area of your head where the hat rests. This works REALLY well with shorter hair. If your hair is longer, gather it up in the back and tuck it into the hat while leaving any smooth fringe peeking out the front.

Go au natural: Instead of blowdrying, curling or straightening your hair texture before plopping a hat on your head, leave strands in their #iwokeuplikethis state. Why? Because it epitomizes laidback glam (and who doesn't want to epitomize THAT?). Plus, when you take your fedora off it will be a cinch to fluff and shake your hair back into place.

Pull it back:
The messy pony strikes again. I mean, it's SO cute. A brimmed hat and a messy ponytail or braid go together like PB and J. Peas and carrots. Whatever. Here's a little trick to ensure that you aren't shoving the hat over a bulky braid or ponytail elastic. Start a low braid about an inch from the nape of your neck. Same goes for a ponytail; when you put your hair into a low pony, slide the elastic down an inch so that your topper has a little bit of wiggle room (and you don't get a hat headache). You look fab, darling
