Health Controversy: As Fashion Week Draws to Close, the Too-Skinny Model Debate Rages On

By Sarah Jio, Glamour magazine

As New York Fashion Week draws to a close, the controversy about whether some models are too thin--and all the baggage that goes with it--rages on. Many people, including, reportedly, one supermodel, is outraged that the trend of emaciated models just won't seem to stop ...

Mega model Bar Refaeli reportedly tweeted recently, "I get so sad when I see 15-year-old pale extremely skinny models at the agency looking all shaky and hungry ... when will it end?!?!?"

While most of us admired her honesty, Refaeli's account was mysteriously shut down after her tweet went up, reports The New York Daily News, and her agency apparently denied the account was even hers to begin with.

Not sure if I'm buying that, you?

But, moving on: Public opinion seems to be in favor of healthier, more fit girls on the runway (and in many ways, Glamour has been at the forefront of this conversation--remember the woman on page 194?)--and there have been some strides in that direction in the last few years--but the word on the street is that things aren't changing fast enough in an industry that praises skinny even at a detriment to health. (And yet, other countries like Australia, have developed code of conduct rules limiting skinny models and photo retouching--why can't we?)

To all lovers of fashion: I'm curious, are you bothered by seeing impossibly thin models on the runway? Do you wish things would change in the industry?
