Helena Bonham Carter defends her crazy style and mismatched shoes

We have to give Helena Bonham Carter props for not confining to traditional fashion limits, but sometimes her wild ensembles land the eccentric actress on worst dressed lists. At this year's Golden Globe Awards, the 44-year-old made the rather juvenile choice to wear mismatched shoes (one red and one green) along with a highly questionable Vivienne Westwood dress covered in tulle. But Bonham Carter stands by her decision. "Why not wear mismatching shoes? Who says we can't? I was just having fun," the actress told People. "For me, fashion is all about fantasy and putting unlikely things together. That's what I love. I genuinely love dressing up."

We love her spirit, which many fashion icons like Cyndi Lauper and Betsey Johnson would certainly embrace. Great fashion is fun and unexpected! But sometimes you can have a lot of fun and creativity with an outfit and have it not be unattractive to the eye. "Sometimes I get it right and I sometimes I get it wrong," Bonham Carter admitted to People. "But fashion is all about having fun. I think fashion has been hijacked by the fashion industry creating rules on what one should wear and I feel like breaking the mold and seeing that the world won't crumble."

Hmm, well, that actually makes a lot of sense to us. And she is the wife of Tim Burton who definitely has his own unique style as well. With that in mind, we'll try not to judge her so harshly at the Academy Awards on February 27. Bonham Carter was nominated for her role as Queen Elizabeth in "The King's Speech" and plans to walk the red carpet again. "Maybe I will wear the exact same dress I wore at the Golden Globes but with matching shoes," she told People. "Or put the shoes on my head!"

Well, at least she's able to laugh at herself. Now we can't wait to see what Bonham Carter ends up wearing to the Oscars!

What do you think of Helena Bonham Carter's fashion risks? Are her outfits creative and carefree or a total trainwreck?
