Here comes the hipster bride: Urban Outfitters to make wedding gowns

Look out Vera Wang! Hipster mecca Urban Outfitters is the newest name in bridal. Very soon they will be offering gowns, bridesmaid dresses, jewelry, accessories, shoes, invitation, and even a bridal registry. "We want to offer a community for bride," says CEO Glen Senk. "Travel services, wedding planning and flowers are things we could potentially offer. We're trying not to be just about selling products. We want to help the bride plan the wedding."

Gowns will range from $1,000 to $5,000. We have to say, spending that much money at Urban Outfitters sounds like a joke. While we love Urban for their affordable, trendy items, they're not the epitome of quality. Or elegance. Senk says the pieces will be "heirlooms, to be passed on from one generation to the next," but we have yet to have a single item from Urban Outfitters last more than a year or two. So while the average bride spends $4,500 on her wedding attire, we feel that money may be better spent elsewhere. [WWD][New York]
