Here's a Good Reason to Ditch Your High Heels for Flats

FlatsFlatsHow awesome is it that more and more women are hopping on the whole wearing flats instead of heels bandwagon? Don't get me wrong -- heels are absolutely adorable and make our legs look amazing. But blisters and sore feet are kind of a high price to pay for looking fashionable.

Granted, there are quite a few gals who have figured out of the secret of how to walk in heels without wanting to cry after 10 minutes, but for those of us who can't master stilettos to save our lives, this new flats-are-sexy trend is like a breath of fresh air. It's also a huge win for moms in particular. Let's face it, not all of us are able to pull a Victoria Beckham and successfully carry a baby without dropping her while wearing 6-inch-high strappy sandals.

Aside from flat shoes being more comfortable and easy to walk in, a new study suggests that wearing flats is better for the health of your leg muscles, and that heels may actually make you more prone to injuries.

Huh. Seems kind of ironic considering that fear of falling over and breaking a leg is a lot of the reason why some ladies choose to forgo heels in the first place.

Die-hard heel lovers who absolutely refuse to give up their beloved shoes even if it means they may wind up with funky looking feet down the road will be happy to know that there are actually some pretty cute flat styles out there these days. Just because your feet are planted firmly on the ground doesn't mean that you have to turn into someone who has totally lost her fashion sense.

J.Crew has great new styles of ballet flats this season that are just as colorful and fun as any neon pair of stilettos. And if ballet flats aren't your thing, then maybe a fun pair of Steve Madden leopard print loafers will pique your interest.

If you are one of those people who just isn't ready to part ways with your favorite pair of high heels, there is some hope. The same study also says that cutting down the days you wear heels to once or twice a week is a huge improvement. Baby steps, right?
