Highlighter Heaven: Jemma Kidd, Stila, Benefit and Laura Gellar

Models in fashion ads always look so amazingly otherworldly. (If you need a visual cue, think Gemma Ward in the Prada campaign. Er, scratch that, think Gemma in any ad she's ever been in....) Some of those girls just happen to look like that normally-I've seen Gemma in NYC's East Village, and she does-but other times, they look so cool because of a secret weapon: Highlighter.

This shiny stuff can give you dewy-looking skin and even if you've got a round face, the appearance of cheekbones. (Score!) Here, a few of my faves:

Jemma Kidd Dewy Glow All Over Radiance Créme: This cream highlighter almost feels dry to the touch, which should make control freaks happy-during the day, it won't slip and slide down to your chin.

Stila Illuminating Powder in Rose Gold: Some highlighters can look like an unnatural silvery flash on the skin-this one won't. Its peachy-pink, glimmering color warms up every complexion while giving skin a pretty glow.

Benefit Miss Popularity: This highlighter has a Q-tip-like applicator, so it's great for detail work, like dotting the inner corners of your eyes or down the bridge of your nose. (That last trick will make your nose look skinnier, if that's what you want).

Laura Gellar Liquid Candelight Face and Body Luminizer: Squirt a pea-sized drop of this stuff onto a foundation brush or latex makeup sponge, and blend it onto your temples and cheekbones. This product really does replicate incandescent light.
