How Do You Wear Perfume?

By Sarah Wexler, Allure magazine

I'm not much of a perfume person-I usually don't like it on others, and I don't tend to wear any myself. (If I do venture into fragrance, I go for Demeter's Honeysuckle, because it smells sweet but isn't much of a commitment, since it fades to a subtle level quickly).

But I've recently been converted by Anthropologie's 5 O'Clock At Belvoir Castle Stephen Nilsen, which has notes of bergamot, jasmine, sandalwood, and-wait for it-damp moss. Though the regal-sounding fragrance comes in a traditional spay, I decided to try the pencil version, mostly because it cost $10, as opposed to $48. It's definitely the best $10 I've spent this week, because I'm smitten.

I feel like I have much more control over how much I put on (overloading, getting a headache, and then being stuck in the scent-cloud all day is my biggest perfume fear), and it's easy to throw in my purse if I want to apply more later. And I usually do, since the scent lasts for about four hours-maybe this is step two in the program for recovering perfume-phobes.

Have you used anything besides traditional spritzers-such as roll-ons, pencils, fragrance solids in compacts-and were you as converted as I am?
