Having flawless skin is something that girls everywhere aim for, but it's not the easiest thing to achieve. We help the beauty world run on the fact that we're always looking for the latest product that will get rid of blemishes, redness, dark circles, and the like. We learn to use foundation at an early age to cover up these discolorations, but foundation also comes in multiple forms and brands and can prove to be trickier than it looks.

Erica Maniscalco, makeup artist and managing editor at the Fashion Journal, gives us a step-by-step guide on how to use liquid foundation to achieve flawless looking skin. Using liquid foundation is a great light coverage that is a step above tinted moisturizer (which is considered the lightest foundation). It gives you nice coverage without a powdery, cakey look, and goes on smoothly to even out your skin tone, making it perfect for no makeup, made up look.
Step 1:

Spray a sponge with a little water and gently run over face to clean off any dirty residue. Depending on your skin type, you may need to further prep your face. If you have oily skin, apply an anti-shine serum to create a matte base. If your skin is dry or combination, apply a light primer.

Step 2:

Put a little liquid foundation onto the back of your hand and with your fingertip, dab the foundation over your face: two dabs on your forehead, two on the cheeks, one on your nose, and one on your chin. Covering the face this way helps ensure a more even and spreadable coverage. (HD High Definition Foundation by Make Up Forever, $40, at sephora.com)

Step 3:

Blend the foundation into the skin with your fingers. Using your fingers gives you more control over the foundation and doesn't soak up the makeup the way a brush or sponge may. Gauge your coverage after this step and remember, "less is more."

Step 4:

Take a sponge and blend the foundation into your neck, ears, and hairline to eliminate any obvious lines. We recommend using a sponge because it has the ability to pull and spread out the makeup.

Step 5:

To further mask any undereye circles or blemishes, don't try to cover them by matching your skin tone; instead you'll want to cover the blue or purple undereye with a salmon tone to offset the cooler hues. For blemishes with a reddish color, use a concealer with a green undertone.

Step 6:

To apply, do not wipe the concealer with your finger. Gently massage and tap the concealer into the undereye.

Step 7:

Finish your look with a loose setting powder that matches your skin tone. Apply powder to a puff and gently pat the makeup over the face with a focus on the undereye and any blemishes you cover up. This will set the makeup.
