How to Control Oily Skin

Question: How do I keep oily skin under control?

Answer:
This one's tough. If you truly have tried all of the oil-control lotions, cleansers, and astringents out there (even AHA's?) then your best bet is to look to prescription-strength solutions. New York-based dermatologist Amy Wechsler, a contributing editor for Marie Claire, recommends Retin-A to her patients to treat acne and oily skin. (Bonus: it also reduces wrinkles.) For really severe cases, she sometimes prescribes a low dose of Accutane -- the oral acne medication derived from vitamin A. There are considerable side effects with Accutane though, including potential birth deformities, so if a baby is in your future, stick with the topical remedies.
