Iman thinks models and actresses are too thin

The fashion industry appears to making a conscious effort to change their asthetic by using less airbrushing, less makeup, and more realistic sized models. Iman, a 54-year-old former model and goddess among mere mortals, loves this recent change. "I'm so for it. Are you kidding me?" Iman told New York magazine last night at a Harper's Bazaar's dinner. "I think the fashion industry has been just walking around it and they do maybe one issue out of the year called 'the Body Issue.'" We have to agree. We love seeing real women represented in fashion, and hope it's not just a current trend, but something that will last going forward.

"I think not only fashion models," added Iman. "I think a lot of people, especially in the media, actresses as well, they're getting a little bit too skinny and a little bit scary. And not pretty. That's the thing-I don't know why anybody doesn't want to look pretty. It doesn't look good."

Iman, we raise a glass to you! While surely there are some beautiful women with small, thin frames, not everyone is built that way. Iman also feels that black models are not used enough in fashion spreads, on runways, and in ad campaigns. Designers, editors, producers, photographers, casting agents, models, and actresses all need to do their part to slowly transform the representation of women in the media to a realistic one that everyone can feel more comfortable with. Women of all shapes, sizes, and colors are beautiful, and we would love for them all to be represented in a positive way. [NY Mag]
