Investment Dressing

I am a firm believer in "Investment Dressing" and this time of year couldn't be a better time to pick up those more costly pieces that make a wardrobe. So, which items - based on trends and need - are the most valuable ones to have in your closet? Here's a list that I think is sure to make your investment dressing pay off huge dividends for your personal style:

Fur Vest

A real or fake fur vest a key piece for the cold weather months. A fur vest makes every outfit look put together and current. You can't go wrong with either brown or grey because they are colors that go with anything, whether bold or monotone.

Cashmere Scarves

Scarves are my absolute favorite accessory whether winter, spring, summer, or fall. Scarves make for a perfect way to inject color and an element of chic into your outfit. The best part is that no matter what color you like best, you can't go wrong with a scarf as an accessory. Just make sure you choose a medium length or long scarf that you can wear stylishly. Black T-Shirts

I can't get enough black t-shirts in my wardrobe and neither should you! They go with absolutely everything. This isn't new or earth-shattering information, but think of all the possible uses for a simple black t-shirt. Need something with just about any color or pattern skirt? Try a black tee. Need something to wear with a sexy pair of jeans, your grey fake fur vest, above-the-knee boots, and a scarf? Try a black tee. You get the picture. And by all means mix it up. Include short sleeve, three quarter sleeve, crew necks, and v-necks. If you're budget conscious then H&M is a great place to pick up these staples for less than $20.

The Black Sequin Tank Top

A black sequin tank top is an absolute must-have because it is among the most versatile pieces you can own. It also goes with everything whether day or night, casual or dressy.

Leather

This year is the all about leather, particularly leggings. You can buy leather leggings by The Row (the company owned by Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen) for around $1,600, or you can take advantage of the sales and pick up a style-enhancing pair for a song. Either way, you can't go wrong. You may also wish to include a leather skirt if you come across one you like. I have two fantastic Prada leather skirts that I wear all year round and they are among the most utilized pieces I own.

Boots

Over-the-knee boots are all the rage. They make everyone, regardless of size, appear leggy. More important, they look great with just about anything. With all the sales going on pick up as many pairs as you can in as many colors as you like because they aren't going out of style any time soon.

There are quite a few more items I would encourage you to have in your closet such as a knit dress, a long knit sweater, and of course a great black dress. But then again, you probably know this already. The six items mentioned above will not only last for quite a long time, but will also take you to your next level of style and have heads turning your way.
