Is Jennifer Lopez the Style Icon of the Decade?

Jennifer Lopez has been having a rough couple of months. First she made a spectacle of herself in a totally unflattering glittery catsuit on New Year's Eve, and then she fell on her butt during a performance of her new single "Louboutins." (Shouldn't you be able to walk in heels if you're singing about them?) Recently, she was dropped by her record label right before the release of her upcoming album, and her new movie, "The Back-Up Plan," bombed in theaters this past weekend. So when I came across the new issue of US Weekly with J.Lo sitting sexily on the cover under a huge caption exclaiming, "How I did it!," I wondered what exactly she'd done well. Apparently the article is about how she now has her best body ever, after battling baby weight. But the cover coincides with US Weekly's nomination of Lopez as the Style Icon of the Decade.

"It's an incredible honor!" J.Lo told Us Weekly of her new title. "When they told me, I was just like, 'Really? Oh, my god! That's so awesome.' It's just so great for me, because I really do love fashion, and I have since I was a little girl." Is J.Lo really the Style Icon of the Decade?I'm not so sure about that. It's not that Jennifer Lopez doesn't have good style. We love that she is a fashion risk taker, and that her wardrobe runs the gamut from casual street style to dramatic designer duds. Her looks are often imitated and copied too, which means she is influential. But perhaps someone else would have been more worthy. Here are more style award winners as printed in US Weekly:

  • Jennifer Lopez: Style Icon of the Decade

  • Sheryl Crow: The Trendy Traditionalist

  • Nicole Scherzinger, Brooke Burke, Erin Andrews: The Dancing With the Stars Divas

  • Anna Kendrick: The New Showstopper

  • Sofia Vergara: The Sophisticated Siren

  • Kelly Osbourne: The Punk Princess

  • Katharine McPhee: The In-Vogue Vocalist

  • Mark Salling: The Casual-Cool Hunk

  • Nikki Reed: The Colorful Coquette

  • Alyson Hannigan: The Ex-Tomboy

  • Molly Sims: The Model Turned Mogul

  • Monica: The No-Mom-Jeans Mom

Excuse me, but I'm now a bit confused. Where is Sarah Jessica Parker on this list? "Sex and the City" was the most fashionable show on television, and the actress has pretty much become synonymous with style. How is Alyson "One time at band camp" Hannigan on the list, yet there's no sign of SJP? This is sacrilege! Furthermore, I would have chosen Gwen Stefani as the most stylish mom, and Michelle Obama and Carla Bruni as the best dressed first ladies. And surely Lady Gaga's avant-garde looks over the past few years are worthy of a trophy. Beyonce, Rihanna, Kate Moss, and Victoria Beckham are very fashionable as well. And nothing against Molly Sims, but perhaps Heidi Klum would be a better winner for the "Model Turned Mogul" category.

Who do you think are the most stylish ladies around? And which woman should have won the Style Icon of the Decade? [US Weekly]
