Just How Far Do Your Goodwill Donations Go? Check Out This Cool Tool

By Tracey Lomrantz,Glamour magazine

Have you ever hauled off a big old trash bag full of your old sweaters and skirts to your local Goodwill and wondered exactly how your donations could help make a difference?

Goodwill (a place you ladies have said you not only donate to, but love picking up great deals at, too!) has a new program underway called The Donate Movement, and along with it, the Donation Impact Calculator, which can "help people quickly and easily determine the social and environmental benefits of their donations."

Just head to http://donate.goodwill.org, plug in what you're able to donate (ie, three pairs of jeans, 2 coats, and 4 sweaters), and it will tell you exactly what can be accomplished thanks to your generosity. Just one jacket and one pair of shoes can provide a half-hour of on-the-job training for Goodwill employees, opening doors for people who are truly in need.

I've championed the good old-fashioned closet clean out many times before--remember when we collected more than 1,000 winter coats last January!!?--but the end of summer feels like the perfect time to do some purging and some good for others at the same time. Head over to the Donation Impact Calculator now and see how far your old clothes can go!
