Kardashian-Style Smoky Eyes, Step by Step

By Elizabeth Siegel, Allure magazine

We were glued to Sunday's premiere of Keeping Up with the Kardashians's fifth season, and not just because we were waiting for Scott's latest antics. We're mesmerized by that Kardashian smoky eye. You know, the one Kim, Kourtney, and Khloé wear at a club, to lunch, to work...you name it. Here, our tips for getting the look:

Line your upper and lower lash line with black pencil, winging the line beyond the outer corners of the eye. Don't worry about making the line too perfect. Smudge it with a cotton swab.

Choose a matte black shadow for lots of drama, or a shimmery medium gray for pared down glamour. Makeup artist Diane Kendal suggests holding a folded tissue under your bottom lashes to catch any flakes of shadow.

The color should be darkest in the crease and along your lashes, so apply shadow to those areas first. Begin painting the lash line at the outer corner, and use small feathery stroke. Then, blend the shadow over the rest your lid using a brush.

The Kardashians top off their smoky eyes with gobs of fake eyelashes. Pick a set that includes different lash lengths, and curl your natural lashes before applying. Use a slant-edge tweezers to pick up and apply small clusters of the lashes. After the lashes dry (which takes about five minutes) apply mascara for a really lush effect.
