Kate Middleton Jokes that Prince William Could Use an Alpaca Toupee

Kate Middleton and Prince William almost always appear uncannily cheerful and calm when they're out in public, even in the midst of bizarre photo ops or among wild crowds. So it is surprising (and somewhat unsettling) that, during this recent tour of Australia and New Zealand, the barbs have started to fly. Perhaps it's the time difference? Maybe it's all these head-to-head competitions on their itinerary? Or it could be that they just really miss Lupo. Whatever the cause, it's starting to make us feel a little uncomfortable, like when you're in the backseat on a car ride with your parents and they start making snippy comments to each other about the air conditioning or the music playing ("Sheryl Crow again, sweetheart?").

First, William made several (ostensibly playful, but still spiky) comments about Kate's outfits-calling one "too bright" and the other "banana"-esque-and now Kate has shown she can dish it, too. The pair visited the Royal Easter show in Sydney on Friday, and the tour guide, Lyn Cregan, showed the couple a tuft of alpaca wool, which, per the Daily Mail, was "a similar shade of brown to the Duke's hair." Cregan recounted, "The princess said (William) should put some on his head . . . she pointed at him and said 'You need it more than me.' He laughed." (Prince Harry no doubt just snickered and gave an air high five to "Kate," before resuming his Xbox game.)

Following the stop at the Easter show, the couple visited a children's hospice in Sydney, where they spent more than an hour visiting patients. They also stopped by a beach to meet young lifeguards and receive a surfboard for Prince George. (Unfortunately, Kate and William did not turn up in snazzy swimwear for the appearance. In fact, Kate refused to change into flats, keeping on her beloved cork wedges.) Kate wore an appealing white lace sundress-by Australian designer Zimmerman-which looks like the Kate Middleton version of "Coachella chic." (Unsurprisingly, the Zimmerman website has crashed in the wake of Kate's appearances.) And thankfully, William restrained himself from making any sort of "The craft store called, they want their doily back" barbs.
