Kate Middleton Plays Cricket in Heels in New Zealand

Sometimes it feels like these Kate and William photo ops are generated in some sort of factory in a Mad Libs-style assembly line: "Let's put her . . . in a ferris wheel . . . with ribbons in her hair . . . in jeans!" "At a tribal ceremony . . . in a purple fascinator . . . sitting in a wheelbarrow!" Monday's New Zealand itinerary brought Kate and William to the cricket field, where the couple actually went out onto the grass and did cricket stuff. Kate-dressed in a red skirt suit and black heels-wielded a yellow bat and took swings at William's pitches (which are apparently called "bowls" in cricket terms).

Per the Daily Mail, Kate was "bowled one off-stump" by William, though "fortunately she managed to strike it to mid off." (We will take your word for it, Daily Mail, since that all sounds like suspect Google Translate results to us.) She then "managed to miss two further balls." Before calling it quits and watching from the sidelines, Kate threw two balls to William, and she was very tough on herself, assessing afterwards, "The first ball was too high, a lot too high. My second ball was much better. He hit it, someone fielded it, no runs. I felt a bit better after that ball. He was pretty good."

The report also notes that Kate had to duck during the very first bowl, when William "almost bowled a ball into her head." After William "joking" that Kate's yachting victory was the result of a "sabotaged" boat, followed by William taunting "next time, next time . . ." when his rugby team bested Kate's, we wonder if maybe these athletic competitions between them . . . aren't the best idea. At this rate, we could very well have a fascinator trampled on a soccer field or a silver pin submerged in a swimming pool before they even reach Australia.
