Kerry Washington is pregnant!

Recent Vanity Fair cover star Kerry Washington is pregnant with her first child, Us Weekly is reporting, claiming the Scandal star is about four months along. (There has been no confirmation from reps and no visible "baby bump" yet, though blogs have been speculating about a potential pregnancy for weeks.) In early July, it was announced that Kerry had married San Francisco 49ers quarterback Nnamdi Asomugha in Idaho the previous month (no one had even known the two were dating), in the kind of reveal that would occur in the last five minutes of a Scandal episode-though it'd still be followed by at least one hostage situation.

Kerry's having what they call a "moment," starring in a massively popular television show, earning her first Emmy nomination, racking up magazine covers-and, to boot, she's due to host Saturday Night Live this weekend. And her personal life is flourishing. Whoever her best friend was growing up, he or she is no doubt just completely fed up at this point. ("Seriously, another Kerry story my parents are going to be sending me links about for a month?")

What would a pregnancy mean for her alter ego Olivia Pope, however? No word yet from creator Shonda Rhimes, but we're having a hard time imagining an Olivia pregnancy being woven into the fabric of the show, given the twist-a-minute, explosion-in-every-corner state of affairs. (Also, there is Shondaland precedent, as Ellen Pompeo hid her pregnancy on season five on Grey's Anatomy.) On the other hand, it does seem possible, given the show's "we're going there, even though you think we won't!" M.O. (lest we forget, this is a series in which the president murdered a Supreme Court justice) that Shonda will defy our expectations and write the pregnancy into the story. And you just know she could milk every last drop out of a "Is it Fitz's or Jake's?" arc. One constituency no doubt hoping the pregnancy is written in? Designers of high-end maternity coats.
