Lessons in Layering: The Supermodel-Approved Styling Trick That's Perfect for Unpredictable Fall Weather

Getty ImagesGetty ImagesIt's all about layering this season--especially when the weather is so up and down--so take advantage of the opportunity and try it the supermodel-approved way.

Of course Miranda Kerr has the lock down on a breezy, "oh, I just ran out of the house and look street style ready" approach to layers. But it really is that easy. She started with a light and versatile foundation of a slubby white tee and distressed denim skirt (which could just as easily be a weekend top and jeans or a work-friendly shift dress) then added on a fitted black blazer, and finally topped the look with a boxy, mid-thigh-length Givenchy wool coat in the same hue.

To avoid any bulky, bunchy lines and stay fashion editor-chic, Miranda threw the coat over her shoulders as a cape. This technique also serves a functional purpose for when it's kinda chilly, but not outright cold or you want to try out the cape-look, but aren't ready to fully commit. (Because it's actually kind of tricky to ride a crowded subway or drive a car while wearing a long cape. Been there.) Next lesson: doubling up, courtesy of Joseph Altuzarra's genius moto-jacket layered over a trench coat for his fall/winter runway. Obsessed with that one, too.

She does look effortlessly flawless per usual, right? Do you like how she wore her layers? Are you tempted to try out this look?
