I Have a Major Hair Secret (PHOTOS)

Topknots are EVERYWHERE these days.

Celebrities from Jessica Alba to Sarah Jessica Parker regularly sport high buns, whether they're on the red carpet or simply out running errands.

You'd think this look would be difficult to pull off, because your hair is short, or because there's just not enough of it to make a proper, full bun.

Well, I've got a BIG secret that just might work for you!

It involves this $12.74 Scunci faux hair clip from Walgreens.

You might find this hard to believe, but I use it ALL THE TIME. I'll show you the photographic evidence!

I bought this hair clip a few years ago when I saw it at the drugstore. I've never tried a wig or hair extensions of any kind, but at this low price, I thought it would be fun to play with and might come in handy on Halloween.

You can't tell from the photo, but the synthetic hair is as close to real hair as I've ever seen. It's not too "silky" (a dead giveaway for fake hair), and when I put it next to my real hair, I really can't tell a difference. The fact that the hair clips on with the same kind of clip I use to put up my hair for workouts was another big bonus -- I knew that it would be incredibly easy to use.

I tried it out when I got home and was amazed that it easily fit over my real ponytail, and it looked like real styled, slightly curled-at-the-ends hair! Over the years, it has been invaluable to me, particularly for date nights or parties when I've literally had five minutes to get ready and my hair was a mess. I can just put my hair into a ponytail, clip on the faux hair, and instantly have luscious, Hollywood locks. But lately, I've been forgoing the ponytail in favor of the topknot. Check this out ...

Yesterday, I put my hair in a quick ponytail, just to show you how this works.

I clipped the faux hair over the ponytail ...

Then, I wrapped the ponytail into a bun, and tucked the ends into the clip.

Here's the end result, which took about one minute and is still completely unstyled. If I were going out, I would have made a neater ponytail, spent a little more time making the bun perfect, etc. But even like this, IT WORKS!

I have worn this topknot to retro costume parties, on date nights, and to social events. And for a less "glamorous" look, I wear the bun on the back of my head, or at the nape of my neck. I could get this same look with my real hair (and have), but it takes an hour of curling and styling and a good dozen or two bobby pins.

This hair clip is one of my favorite last-minute hairstyle savers in my closet!

Would you try it?
