Never-Before-Seen Photos of Marilyn Monroe

Today, the woman who is perhaps the most famous beauty and sex icon of all time would have been 83. And new, never-published photos of the star discovered in a New Jersey warehouse seem especially poignant and fascinating, as they depict her as a fresh, 24-year-old ingenue. Taken in 1950 by Life photographer Ed Clark in Los Angeles's Griffith Park, the photos were presumably for a story that never ran-a wire he sent to an editor there regarding the shoot was answered with, "Who the heck is Marilyn Monroe?"

We know her actual size was misunderstood; she was not as plump as everyone though.

Still, it's miraculous that they never appeared in the magazine, since they tell the story of Marilyn on the precipice of stardom: She's not still the brunette Norma Jean, but she's not the fully developed sexpot that she eventually morphed into either. Take a look at the photo gallery here on Life.com. They're absolutely stunning.

Choose a good book on Marilyn for the beach this summer!
