Selena Gomez wore a bindi in three recent performances: on Sunday night's MTV Movie Awards, on the Ellen DeGeneres show Tuesday, and on "Dancing With the Stars" that evening. She's not responded to Rajan Zee's call for an apology.

Remember pop-culture bindis? The shiny forehead jewels were big in the '90s, thanks to a ropy-haired Gwen Stefani and Om-Shanti Madonna, who helped usher them into fashion while also being criticized for "cultural appropriation." Now bindis are back in the spotlight, thanks to Selena Gomez, who's been rocking them all over the place, and getting plenty of flak for it, too. "The bindi on the forehead is an ancient tradition in Hinduism and has religious significance," said Hindu spokesperson Rajan Zedd, who added that the accessory is "not meant to be thrown around loosely for seductive effects or as a fashion accessory aiming at mercantile greed." Gomez is far from the only one who's doing it, though. Let's take a gander at just a handful of celebs who have made the bindi big.
