Getty ImagesFor the uber-wealthy, choosing a place to call home in a city like New York is all about the perks--doorman, 24-hour concierge service, housekeeping, dog-walker, pool, gym, exclusive in-house restaurant, you name it, a luxury apartment building will offer it. So that's why we weren't surprised to learn that the hottest new amenity being offered by new developments in Manhattan is--wait for it--direct access to personal shoppers at some of the city's most exclusive department stores.
According to a report in the Observer, 22 Central Park South is now offering "in-home access to personal shoppers and hair stylists from Bergdorf"--yes, that's Bergdorf Goodman, home of one of the most legendary shoe floors on the East Coast and designers and brands including Oscar de la Renta and Alexander McQueen. And yes, that's means that with a touch of a keypad (or dial of the cell phone), residents will be able to summon racks of Chanel and a personal hairstylist to their living room.
But 22 CPS isn't the first building to offer this tie-in. The Upper East Side's Mark and Carlton House launched partnerships with Bergdorfs and Barneys New York last year--and each building one-ups the other in terms of VIP access.

"Residents will also be able to have lunch and dinner delivered from Fred's [at Barneys] and get made-to-measure services, in-home custom suit services and home delivery of any in-store purchase."
Sounds pretty sweet, no? Would a building's relationship with your favorite brand or store swing your decision to live there? I know I'm a fashion writer, so this might sound like sacrilege, but I'm pretty sure that if a building had a "We have special access to one-hour delivery of anything from Amazon.com" amenity, I'd have to really give it some serious thought.
