Ombre Nails: Nail the Look

By GalTime Editor Kerri Winick

Last summer, ombre hair had its moment in the sun. This season, ombre nails are making their mark among beauty mavens. This trendy mani involves reaching for five different nail polishes of the same tone. The darkest laquer is layered on your pinky. The color then fades gradually, with the lightest landing on your thumb. How can you nail this look at home? GalTime and celebrity manicurist Skyy Hadley show you how!

Step 1: Apply a clear base coat to your nails.

Step 2: Choose a deep/dark color that complements your skin tone. This will be your base color. Paint it on your pinky. Skyy recommends a dark brown shade for lighter skin tones, a deep grey or purple for medium/olive skin tones, and a deep burgundy for darker skin tones.

Step 3: Pour a dime-sized drop of your base color onto a paper plate. Using a toothpick, mix in one small drop of white polish. This will create a polish one shade lighter than your pinky. Apply this shade to your ring finger.

Step 4: Pour another dime-sized amount of base color onto the plate. Mix in two drops of white polish. Paint this shade on your middle finger.

Step 5: For the index finger, combine the base color with three drops of white polish.

Step 6: For the thumb, pour a dime-sized amount of white polish onto the plate. Add one small drop of the base color to the center. Swirl and apply.

Step 7: Finish with a clear top coat, and get ready to show off your fingertips!
