Our Favorite VMA Makeup Looks

The MTV VMA's were last night, and we were eyeing the red -- er, black carpet for the best makeup looks. Of course, we were also watching the fashion as well, since crazy get-ups are practically guaranteed at the VMA's. (We even put together our own gallery of nearly-naked VMA celebs.)

But when it came to the makeup, let's just say there was a lot to choose from … Jessie J.'s deep plum lips, Demi Lovato's dewy glow (Beyoncé also had a certain glow, but not from her makeup!), Kim Kardashian's smoky eye. But our top two favorite makeup looks of the night belonged to Selena Gomez and Katy Perry. While they were at opposite ends of the spectrum (Selena went classic, while Katy went colorful), both looked amazing.

Selena Gomez's Classic and Clean Look

While we were a little confused by Selena Gomez's lacy half-gown, half mini-dress (you can see that here), her makeup was a completely different story. She looked beautiful with her classic makeup look. As her makeup artist, Karan Mitchell explained, Selena's look was all about "glowing skin offset for bronzy smoldering eyes, immaculate brows, and lips done up in metallic rosy hues."

Here's how to get her look:

Face: For a young and radiant glow, Martin started with Lancome Eclat Miracle Complexion Illuminator, and followed with Effacernes Concealer in Beige Neutral III. To play up Selena's cheeks, Martin used Blush Subtil in Sheer Amourose.

Eyes: To create that "bronzy smoldering eye," Martin began with Color Design 5 Pan Palette in Bronze Amour, then added Hypnose Doll Lashes Mascara in So Black! Next, she applied Le Stylo EyeLiner in Noir and finished with Selena's brows using Modele Sourcils Brow Groomer in Brunet.

Lips: Selen's lips were a simple mix of two products: Color Design Lipstick in Fashion Icon, followed by Color Fever Gloss in Hibis-Kiss.

Katy Perry's Fresh and Colorful Look

Katy Perry's '40s-inspired powder blue dress definitely made heads turn (you can check that out here), as well as her pinkish-purple hair. And the color didn't stop there -- makeup artist Jake Bailey (and the CoverGirl team), made sure to incorporate all those hues into her overall makeup look.

Here's how to get her look:

Eyes: To make Katy's eyes pop, Bailey began with CoverGirl Liquline Blue Boom and then blended CoverGirl Intense ShadowBlast in Blue Bomb over her entire lid. Next, Bailey added Intense ShadowBlast in Beige Blaze in the corner of Katy's eye, and blended another Intense ShadowBlast in Forever Pink all the way up to the brow. Together the pink and blue shades produced a really beautiful purple hue. Bailey finished the look with NatureLuxe Mousse Mascara in Black.

Lips: For Katy's perfect coral-pink lip, Bailey used CoverGirl LipPerfection LipColor in Temptress.
