Peggy's Chic Makeover On The New Season Of Mad Men

By Tracey Lomrantz,Glamour magazine

Season 4 of Mad Men premiered last night, and while it was full of serious foreshadowing and incredible plot twists (Don dating Betty 2.0!), my favorite surprise moment, by far, was the first glimpse we got at the newly chic Peggy Olson.

When we first met Peggy, she was a middle class secretary from Bay Ridge, Brooklyn with a penchant for juvenile little dresses and a really unfortunate haircut. Three seasons later, she's been transformed into a Madison Avenue power girl, with a major job and a wardrobe to match (and yes, a sleek new 'do that finally flatters her very pretty face).

When she first appeared on the screen last night wearing a snug-fitting sweater, a sleek wool pencil skirt, and a smart little belt to bring the whole thing together, I practically squealed. "Peggy!" I said to my boyfriend, who was sitting next to me. "It's about time, girl!" He was equally impressed with her makeover, and got right to the crux of what suddenly made her so sexy. "You know what the biggest difference is? She's confident."

As the scene went on, I decided he was absolutely right. Here was the character we know and love for her insecurities and her quiet strength, flirting with a good-looking guy and tossing around ideas with the casual certainty of a Don Draper protege. The wardrobe makeover is brilliant, but it's what prompted it--Peggy's newly discovered ability to believe she's fabulous--that really made me smile. I can't wait to see what she gets up to this season!

What did you guys think of last night's Mad Men premiere? Were you as wowed by Peggy's transformation as I was? Do you think her new look will translate into new romantic opportunities? Discuss!
