The inspiration for Misha Nonoo's fall collection was a downtown girl whose look is thrown together with structured pieces. How does that work with the makeup? "The colors were very steel and very icy," Bobbi Brown told me backstage. There's a little bit of eyeliner and a little bit of shimmer and a natural lip.

"It's a blush color lip, kind of like a pinky color, but we blotted it and put some of the shimmery powder on top of it to make it long-lasting and flat," Brown continued. So what's the trick for finding the perfect nude or blush-color lip? "We are absolutely focused on finding the perfect nude, " said the makeup artist. "I teach that at my counter because I think all women should find the color of their lip. Women of color have two choices. The top lip and the bottom. So you guys get to have two. Put it on the middle of the lip. If it disappears, it's the right color. If it looks pasty, it's too light, and if it's orange it's too dark."
