Pop Adderall, Lose Weight and Friends

If you can bring yourself to pay attention for two seconds, can we just discuss this whole Adderall-as-diet-pill phenomenon?

In the August Allure's exposé on the subject, "Speed Dieting," Judith Newman reports on the scary trend in which women are abusing this particular attention deficit disorder drug to get skinny quick. (Adderall kills their appetites.)

Addiction, dry mouth, headaches, fast heartbeat, trouble sleeping, and oh, yeah-sudden death-are just some of the potential side effects that Newman covers, but I have to chime in here and add a few that I've noticed from personal experience.

In my college dorm at Rutgers, there was an Adderall girl who sold her pills for $10 a piece, and a lot of girls on my floor bought them. Though taking the drug may have prevented the Freshman 15, it also deterred:

Friends. When they were all hopped up on Adderall, these girls were beyond annoying. Each one turned into a demonic Chatty Cathy. People would close their doors when they heard them coming!

Good moods. The pill poppers usually did the deed to "study" all night. Post-exam, they'd crash from lack of sleep, and become totally irritable from not eating. They'd skip the rest of their classes for the day, stay in bed, and look really depressed.

Dignity. You know how alcohol makes you spill stuff about yourself to people you wouldn't normally reveal your favorite color to? Well, so does Adderall. When the night's over and you're finally done talking, that's when other people will.

If you want to lose weight, eat a salad and go to the gym. If there was a miracle skinny drug, we'd all be in size 2s by now.
