Pre-birth Primping: Is a pedicure before birthing a Do or Don't?

At a recent event, I overheard two editors discussing how, when they're nearing a pregnancy due date, they try to perfectly time mani/pedi and waxing appointments so as to look well-groomed in the stirrups (I actually don't know if stirrups are involved in most birthing situations. I just threw the term in for the imagery.) The concept disturbs me in the same way the "push present" does (but Erin, our Life with Cancer blogger, already delved into that topic). While there's nothing inherently wrong with having nice nails or a fresh Brazilian when you bring a child into the world, I just feel like we have it too good nowadays, if we have the extra time and energy to be this self-absorbed. Or, maybe I'm just being a judgmental jerk. In any case, the New York Post ran this item confirming that these editors aren't the only women thinking this way. Read it, and let me know what you think.
