Problem Solved: What to Do If You've Used Too Much Dry Shampoo

by Nikki Ogunnaike

If you're anything like me, the thought of using dry shampoo on your hair is a little daunting. Can jet-black hair and a powder-white product mix? And what if I use too much? Well, when I stopped backstage at Misha Nonoo's fall-winter 2014 show, I chatted with Tigi global creative director Nick Irwin about just that.

The hair for the Nonoo show was an undone, loosely half-pulled-through ponytail--something any gal can do at home. The trick to achieving the slightly rough texture was Tigi Sessions Series dry shampoo. "We're putting quite a lot of it in to achieve that lived in texture," Irwin told us. Well, he must have seen the fear on my face because he quickly followed with "don't be scared--put a lot in the hair. Blast it with a hair-dryer and that will get the whiteness out of it. It's a powdery textured product that goes white on the hair. So blast the hair on medium heat. Too hot and it starts to melt the dry shampoo. Medium just gets rid of the whiteness in the hair."
