Reviews of 3 Mineral Makeup Brands

I have been skeptical when it came to trying different lines of mineral makeup, especially when it came to eyeshadow. My regular eyeshadow (the kind that comes pressed in a pan) works so well, why bother experimenting?

And then I tried Orglamix Mineral Makeup (1). I had a few samples sitting in my makeup drawer, and when I cleaned it out this weekend, I saw the little tubs sitting at the back of my drawer. I opened them and checked out the colours - two were so pretty I tried them on right there an then. Olive, a nice golden green, and Brimstone, a pretty dark grey-blue that would make a lovely smoky eye.

When I tried on the colours, I was super-impressed. There was no annoying fall-out on to my face, and the colours stuck to my eyelids. Moreover, the wore beautifully as the day went on and maintained their colour and sheen. It was pretty amazing - these eyeshadows are probably some of the best that I have ever tried

You can check out the Orglamix Store on Etsy and if you want to do a modern smoky eye, check out the Smoke Mirrors collection that includes Brimstone.

Another brand that has me impressed is Sheer Cover (2). Yes, this is the brand that has the cheesy commercials that feature Leeza Gibbons, but don't skip this brand yet. I haven't tried their foundation, because I didn't find a perfect match, and I didn't like the two shades that I'm supposed to blend together. But friends, their Lip to Lid highlighter in Bronze is amazing! It is pigmented, shimmery, and makes you look like J. Lo. Layer it on top of your regular blush, and you will get tired of saying "thank you" to the compliments that your friends are giving you. It is that great.

The only problem with Sheer Cover, however, is that it's hard to find them selling individual products. You can get their kit, but then you're stuck with products that you probably don't need. To get their bronzer, I would keep my eye on the TSC.com because they sell Sheer Cover products and I find it easier to go through them than to get the products myself. You could also try eBay.

Finally, we get to makeup by Christopher Drummond. Christopher Drummond has worked with many celebrities such as J. Lo and Kimora Lee Simmons and his line is interested because not only is it organic and uses minerals, but he also has an interest in creating glamourous makeup for many different skin tones. If you haven't been able to find a foundation to match your skintone in the regular makeup lines, I would check his line out.

I also tried the Christopher Drummond eyeshadow and I found that it lacked sticking and staying power, though the powders are quite silky. My favourite product is his Saude Pele Radiance Booster (3). This powder comes in one colour - a sheer cream - and it has just the right amount of shimmer in it. I mix it into my regular mineral foundation to give myself a little extra glow and it does the trick. Dab it on the inside of your eyes to make yourself look awake, or use it as a base for eyeshadow - the powder is so light and silky, you can even wear it on its own and forget that you have anything on.
