While Rihanna has never been one to stick with one hairstyle for long, her recent 'do-which was perhaps the coolest mullet in history (apologies to Miley Cyrus's dad)-seemed to have some staying power. She debuted it at fashion week, and showed it off at every angle in her latest music video. But just when she had us thinking her business-in-the-front-party-in-the-back cut might be a long-term look, she switched things up again. But not with long, cascading locks or a jaw-dropping new color-this time, she went for a traditional, dare we say ladylike, bob.

Cutting-edge beauty statements are basically second-nature for the star (she practically pioneered bright blue lipstick), so this classic coif comes as somewhat of a surprise. The chin-length locks are all about demure sophistication, while the choppy layers give it tousled, textured volume, making it fresh and decidedly un-stuffy. Her blunt bangs, which bring out her eyes and frame her face, are a sweet finishing touch.

But hang on! How did Rihanna go from one super-short style to this newly-minted 'do in a matter of, like, days? Right now, it's unclear if this look is here to stay, or if it's simply just a wig. Luckily, she's posted a few close-up shots on Instagram, thanking her longtime hair guru Ursula Stephen-a possible clue that this is a more permanent creation and not just a fleeting accessory.
