Doll-like lashes can be yours with a swipe or two.

My everyday makeup consists of mascara, lip stain, and a few swipes of charcoal eye shadow when I'm feeling edgy. So, when I spotted Maybelline Volum' Express The Falsies mascara ($7.49) at my local drugstore, I decided to live a little and see if it would actually work.

The concept behind the product is fairly simple: swipe the flexible wand across your lashes for a voluminous, false lash look. And that's exactly what I did. The curved brush made lash curlers unnecessary, so I skipped right to coating my lashes twice with the comb. The formula was very wet, so before I even applied a second coat, I waited until the first began to dry -which wouldn't have been an issue if I didn't have to rush to the bus stop- so make sure you give yourself a few extra minutes, especially on your first attempt.

After the second coat, I immediately noticed my lashes looked both longer and fuller, with a killer curve. A personal pet peeve of mine is when mascara fails to hold my lashes up, otherwise known in my beauty book as Droopy Lash Syndrome (DLS). I'm happy to report that they remained sky high and totally curved all day with absolutely no flaking or ensemble ruining raccoon eye.

This product is a definite must in my makeup bag. False lash aficionados might be disappointed though. My lashes looked great, but could they compare to actual faux lashes? No. This formula, while good, is no miracle worker. And whatever you do, don't attempt to apply more than two coats: despite the package's no-clumps promise, another coat for me would have meant a goopy lash disaster.

If you're looking to have perfectly defined lashes, look elsewhere. While mine didn't clump (eek!), I ended up with doll eyes, which served my little black dress quite well (but admittedly, won't work for every gal out there).

If you're craving full, lengthy lashes and know when to stop waving that wand, go for this product. But if you're intent on getting that false lash look, this won't make the cut. Sorry, ladies -you'll have to break out the glue for that!
