From Speed sidekick to Oscar-winning comeback queen, Sandra Bullock's career (and personal life) has had its fair share of twists and turns. So has her fashion sense, which has slowly evolved from low-key tomboy to runway-savvy, leading lady glam. She really rocked it at the MTV Movie Awards.

Now that the actress and new mom is back on the scene to reclaim her title as America's Sweetheart, BettyConfidential has decided to trace her red carpet style journey. Take some notes, kids!

Hope Floats Premiere, 1998

Hope Floats? More like Hopeless. Sandra Bullock looked decidedly underdressed in her blah black suit and shaggy bangs. It's a surprise co-star Harry Connick Jr. and his wife Jill Goodacre didn't mistake her for an usher.

Though still sticking to her boyish tendencies, Sandy B. upgraded her looks with a romantic and wavy bob (ah, so she does have eyes!) and a beautiful, if slightly dowdy, white blouse.

In a look that can only be described as "Lady Who Lunches Crossed with J.Lo," a very uncomfortable-looking Bullock paired giant hoop earrings and mom bangs with a sexy metallic mini dress that she covered up with a bathrobe-style white coat. Looks like someone needed a confidence boost!

Oh well, so much for glam. Bullock played it safe in a shapeless red halter dress paired with a printed pashmina. Our mom would like that back, by the way.

Oscars, 2006

Now that's more like it. An elegant navy ball gown (with pockets!) by Angel Sanchez helped Bullock finally nail the concept of effortless chic. Having Keanu Reeves on her arm didn't hurt either.

Met Costume Institute Gala, 2007

Va va voom! Bullock brought out the big guns for the fashion equivalent of Prom Night, donning a breathtaking wine-red Alberta Ferretti gown. She's a total knockout.

Golden Globes, 2009

Showing a new appreciation for couture, Bullock stole the spotlight in a white flamenco-inspired Christian Dior gown that hugged her curves. Loose waves and a turquoise clutch helped her unleash her movie star moxie.

Oscars, March 2010

Sandra Bullock's big night called for a major dress, and her shimmering metallic Marchesa gown fit the bill perfectly. With her bright lipstick, sleek side-parted 'do, and elegant and age-appropriate dress, Bullock looked every inch the leading lady. Sadly, her husband didn't turn out to have leading man qualities.
