Sarah Jessica Parker's new fragrance: "A party in a bottle"

This morning I found myself among around two-dozen lucky female editors who were given the opportunity to meet Sarah Jessica Parker. As a woman who has seen every episode of "Sex and the City" practically to the point of memorization, I am what you might call a really big fan. And while I once embarrassed myself by approaching Parker in a grocery store many years ago, I was delighted to meet her again under far sweeter circumstances. "Sweetie Pie" restaurant, to be exact: an adorable, girly restaurant in Manhattan's West Village, not far from where Parker herself resides.

As we sat down to brunch, Parker's new scent, SJP NYC, was set up on every table for editors to try. The perfume was incredibly fruity and juicy--something you'd look forward to spraying on once the temperatures rise. "What I really wanted to do was capture an image, a snapshot of Carrie Bradshaw," says Parker. "Sort of a freeze frame of her walking down a New York City street in the late spring, in a floral pink dress."

With notes of strawberry, mandarin, gardenia, and creamy musks, the scent is a vibrant, exciting one that Parker likens to the feeling you had at the sound of the recess bell on the last day of school. "SJP NYC is like a party in a bottle," says Parker. "It's whimsical, it's fun, it has a youthful quality." The fragrance visually embodies those things too. The plastic canister is decorated in an array of bright patterns we'd imagine in Carrie Bradshaw's closet, which Parker describes as an attempt to "create texture and fabric without dimension." The actress also suggests reusing the canister once you've used up the fragrance to store Q-tips, earrings, or little trinkets. Very cute idea!

ELLE's creative director, Joe Zee, styled the SJP NYC campaign, and was also in attendance today. He told us that Oscar de la Renta custom designed a one-of-a-kind floral dress for Parker to wear for the rooftop photo shoot last summer. We saw the dress in person... and we want it.

For those of you looking to snag SJP NYC, the fragrance is now on counters at Macy's and ranges from $25-$49. We also saw a sneak peek of a pretty, gold solid perfume cuff, which will be available in May for $35. For an exclusive, behind-the-scenes look at SJP NYC, take a look at the video below.
