Shine Beauty Gurus review: Softsoap Strawberry Smoother body wash

As temperatures rise and bulky layers are shed, it's time to revive our skin and get it silky smooth. But before body lotions and oils get to work you must exfoliate, cleanse, and nourish the epidermis in a shower or bath. This month, the Shine Beauty Gurus were asked to test out Softsoap Body Butter Strawberry Smoother body wash. Let's see how well this product prepared them for spring. Also! We are seeking new Beauty Gurus! Want to participate in monthly product reviews? Leave a comment below and we'll be in touch!

Packaging and appearance
"The body wash itself looks like a strawberry smoothie with the little exfoliating beads looking like little strawberry seeds!" says M.J. Fellow guru Mrs. Kim noted, "you can see the color and beads right through the bottle, leaving you craving your favorite smoothie." Several gurus also commented that they liked the bottle and easy-open flip top. "The packaging is ergonomic to allow a slippery wet hand to firmly grasp it while in the shower." says Apple.

Texture and application
"I'm always hesitant to use body wash that zaps my skin of moisture," says Michelle. "This body wash moisturized and exfoliates, just like it said." M.J. says the product is thick and creamy, while Mrs. Kim says the texture reminded her of a thick shake, and that "the exfoliating beads deliver just the right amount of scrub on elbows, knees and heels." CarolB disagreed though noting she "did not experience any type of exfoliation of the skin while using this product, therefore it must be very gentle." Megan says, "I was skeptical to try this at first because for some reason when I think of the Soft Soap brand, I think cheap...? Boy, was I pleasantly surprised! The gentle exfoliating beads actually make your skin softer without all the hard work." Emma Mae had her daughter try out the product, and she thought the texture was awesome. "She loved how the little tiny seeds buff away and effortlessly exfoliated her skin...and the sensation she got working it into a lather. Her exact words: 'It's like getting a brand new loofah.'" JRose-Style says "the lather is rich and frothy and it did exfoliate my ashy winter skin... [but] I would suggest that those with sensitive and acne-prone skin proceed with caution.

Scent

Let's be honest, as much as we want a body wash to work, it's often the first thing we smell in the morning and we want it to be a pleasant one! Apple says "the newest scent from Softsoap is a gift from the Strawberry gods. Pop open the top and breathe it in." Emma Mae agreed that "it smells heavenly. The strawberry and jojoba are very subtle. I loved that fact that jojoba was faintly more evident than the strawberry." JRose-Style felt "the fragrance of the body wash was pretty apparent when sudsing up, but didn't linger on the skin post-shower." M.J. liked that the scent wasn't too overwhelming, but Mrs. Kim wanted a more powerful fragrance. Megan felt the product name was dead on and that "it smells just like a strawberry smoothie."

Results and verdict
A popular sentiment was that this body wash was "almost good enough to eat." Mrs. Kim is also totally sold: "After every shower, my entire body not only feels but looks soft." Michelle says "SoftSoap Body Butter Strawberry Smoother is a must for Spring" and that her skin feels healthier. "Hubs has said numerous times, 'You smell SO good!'" CarolB says, "my skin didn't feel dry after the shower and felt moisturized the rest of the evening. Additionally, I liked the fact that the product contains some natural and effective ingredients such as jojoba oil, strawberry fruit juice, and peach juice." (Is anyone else getting thirsty reading this?) Emma Mae's daughter found smoother, softer skin after only five days of use. MJ says it does soften skin, but she didn't feel it was as hydrating as she needed. JRose-Style agreed saying, "For the most part I found my skin was on the dry side after using the body wash rather than feeling adequately hydrated... [but] I did feel that my skin was smoother on my legs and arms." Despite those flaws, many of our Gurus were impressed with the quality for the price. Megan says, "Why waste your money on Bath and Body Works when for a third of the cost you can "splurge" on Exfoliating strawberry body wash from Soft Soap! I am definitely going to buy this body wash again and again." Apple thinks practically, but still enjoys being pampered. "With a budget conscious mind, you will be surprised you can have a high end beauty product feel for less than $5!" Sounds good to us!
