Can Sweatsuits Be Stylish? Let's Debate!

Karl Lagerfeld once said, "Sweatpants are a sign of defeat." And although I agree with this style legend regarding most things, I just can't adhere to this statement. Growing up in the era of velour sweatsuits and harem pants, I've seen my fair share of athletic gear gone wrong, but I'll be the first to admit that I'll fall for a comfy-cute cotton pant pretty fast. Now, I may wear my slouchy sweats with boots and leather jackets, but our favorite designers and street-style stars have proven that there's plenty of ways to dress up your cozywear, whether it be with a pair of pumps, a cool leather jacket, or some bling. And if you don't believe me, I have some proof...

Rita Ora (above) has been killin' the style game lately, and I happen to be a big fan of how she rocks athletic wear from street to stage, especially in this neon getup. Fierce.

We all know that Alexander Wang revolutionized athletic wear long ago, and this look from the designer's fall 2013 is no exception. I think a pair of fuzzy sweats will be necessary for the upcoming season (thrown together with some edgy leather, of course).

Now, if you're tempted to try the trend but still a little skeptical, why not go for track pants like Liya Kebede's? They're a little dressier by nature but still give off that effortless vibe.

And last but not least, how I prefer to wear my favorite sweats--with a sequined top, of course, a la British label Ashish.

What's the verdict? Will you be sporting your sweats on the street? Let me know in the comments!
