When she's not working serious Old Hollywood vibes on the red carpet or delivering plenty of polished sophisticationon tour, Taylor Swift can be spotted in equally chic-and totally covetable-casual threads. So what's her secret? Even though the star tends to gravitate towards classic staples, she never fails to put a fresh, stylish spin on 'em. Here, she's stepped up a simple jeans-and-jacket duo with a few clever tweaks.

Instead of wearing traditional faded blues, Taylor opted for colorful denim that elevates her entire outfit. The moss green hue not only complements her dark navy peacoat, but also makes the bright red carryall (not to mention that Starbucks cup!) really pop against the neutral tones. Although she could have gone with black boots to match her cute bowler hat, we love that she opted for cognac lace-ups (hers are Frye!) instead. They add an effortless, casual vibe to her ensemble.

We've learned a lot from Taylor Swift over the years-mostly lessons in love-but this is a style pointer everyone can use. When it comes to making a major statement, you don't have to match your jacket to your hat, or your shoes to your bag-you just need a few smart accessories and a lot of attitude (though having a handle on complementary colors doesn't hurt either!).
