The 11 Worst Fashion Trends Of The Decade

When Prince sang the lyrics "tonight we're gonna party like it's 1999," he probably didn't think that, in the coming years, his outfit would have gone out of style, come back in, and gone out again. The new millennium brought with it a parade of fashion trends which evolved quicker than ever. Along with the looks we saw come back from the fashion graveyard, a bevy of new ones popped up, too. And while the past ten years have brought us some hot outfits, there are those that turn us off. Here, the worst trends, 2000 through 2009!

1. Harem Pants: Who had the wise idea to bring these ridiculously shaped pants back? Looking Aladdin-chic lasted about a hot second.

2. Carrie Bradshaw's Flower: It would be easy enough to blame "SATC" for just about every girly trend over the past dozen years, but the most famous one had to be the appearance of Carrie's giant flower accessories, starting in 2000 (Season 3). Did anyone actually manage to pull off this look? We're talking about real people.

3. Hobo-Chic: Mary-Kate Olsen pioneered the homeless haute couture getup around 2006, during her brief stint at NYU. All you have to do is roll out of bed, throw on a cloak, and add some Louboutin heels to the mix.

4. Leggings As Pants: The trouble can all be traced to Lindsay Lohan, who jumped on this trend with a leggings line at a time when people still retained some ounce of curiosity in her. It then got out of control and produced all sorts of crazy offshoots-Tron-inspired leggings, sequin-adorned, "jeggings." The worst offenders, of course, were those who took things a step further with hosiery. Tights are not pants, people!

5. Expensive-As-Hell Destroyed Denim: At what point did it ever make sense to drop hundreds of dollars on a pair of jeans that already look like they're 10 years old?

6. Uggs: Once these boots became adopted by Jersey girls, Paris Hilton, and the "Laguna Beach" set, Uggs went from trendy to just plain Ugg-ly.

7. The Juicy Tracksuit: Reaching its height in popularity around 2003, the Juicy Couture tracksuit now serves as the base of many Halloween costumes.

8. Visible Thongs: Thank you, Britney Spears, for starting this awful trend. Now teenage girls think it's hip to let their thongs hang out of their lower-than-low-cut jeans.

9. '80s Re-Revival: How many times will we hear "the '80s are back"? Just stop trying to make legwarmers and neon happen again. Please. For some reason celebs like Rihanna and designers like Marc Jacobs just can't give up metallic fabrics, shoulder pads, and crazy hair. Once it trickled down into the mainstream, the racks at Forever 21 and Topshop looked like the wardrobe for "Flashdance," and people joined in on the ironic fun with fanny packs and, worse yet, the Cap-Sac.

10. Jersey Everything: We blame Lauren Conrad for the diarrhea of draped jersey everywhere in 2007 and 2008.

11. "Ironic" Hipster Fashions: Granny glasses, mustaches, acid-wash jeans, plaid, Arab scarves, and pretty much anything American Apparel ever produced since 2000.
