The Average Woman Spends $49 On A Pair Of Shoes! How About You?

By Tracey Lomrantz,Glamour magazine

Let's talk shoes, shall we, gals? What's the most you've ever spent on a pair? According to a new survey, the average woman is willing to part with about $49 for some fabulous new stems...

The results of a telephone survey from ShopSmart magazine (the same people who publish Consumer Reports) have just been released, and they show that women are willing to spend an average of $49 per pair, but that 31% also cop to having spent more than $100 on occasion. The survey also shows that women own an average of 17 pairs of shoes, down from 19 pairs four years ago.

I confess that I'm not quite "average" here--I have well over 100 pairs! And while my collection is pretty diverse in terms of cost (we're talking $2 Old Navy flip flops, $15 vintage finds, and one very precious pair of $700 Choos), I pride myself on almost never, ever paying full price. The few Louboutins I own all came from consignment stores or the sample sale, and I scour stores like DSW, Century 21, and T.J. Maxx for off-price deals on the regular.

How about you, ladies? What's the most you're willing to spend on a pair of shoes? Does the $49 mark sound about right, or are you splurg-ier than that? Or maybe you're a faithful Payless shopper? How many pairs of shoes do you have, and how much do you usually spend? Share!
