The Worst Oscar Hairstyles Of All Time

I've officially started the countdown to February 27th . Okay, so I watch award shows for a specific reason -- to get my fix of gorgeous celebrity hairstyles and makeup looks (most of which can also be found here). But I also looooove seeing which stars made a huge mistake in hiring their stylist -- especially when it comes to their hair.

There are always a few looks that make my jaw drop, and it's actually become a hobby of mine to search for the worst looking celebrity on the red carpet. You might be rolling your eyes at me, but this is why we all look forward to the Oscars, isn't it? Everyone knows that.

So to prepare myself for this year's worst red carpet hairstyles (among the crowd of gorgeous ones, of course), I dug up the 12 most hideous celebrity hairstyles ever seen at the Oscars. Click here to see all of them, but check out a sneak peek of the first six below.

Angelina Jolie, 2000 Oscars

Angelina Jolie's talent might've blossomed early, but her looks took a while to come in. Her long -- and by long I mean looong -- stringy hair was in need of a desperate trim (and wash) at the 2000 Oscars. Not only that, but she also dressed in all black, which only added to her witchy appearance. You would think she was accepting an Oscar for her role in the Addams Family. But no, it was for best supporting actress in the film "Girl, Interrupted."

Hilary Swank, 2000 Oscars

Hilary Swank's leading performance in "Boys Don't Cry" was a win, but her hair just didn't make the cut at the 2000 Oscars. It's so drab and reminiscent of a total boy cut. It also makes her forehead look huge. In fact, I even had to type in "Hilary Swank's forehead" into Google to see if it's an optical illusion, or if it's really that large. Turns out, bangs + lots of teasing + a large forehead = totally unflattering.

Winona Ryder, 2001 Oscars

Winona Ryder looks like she slept on wet hair, woke up with it stuck to her head, and then stepped directly onto the red carpet at the 2001 Oscars. A stringy look isn't flattering on anyone, but it seems to look even less attractive on Ryder -- maybe because we know what happens later that year (she gets arrested and convicted of shoplifting, if you don't remember).

Jennifer Lopez, 2002 Oscars

Jennifer Lopez's bouffant is like prom hair gone wrong -- in the '80s. Those large ringlets are bad enough, but when paired with a pouf? It makes me think "overdone prom queen." JLo is known for having large assets below her waist, but this look from the 2002 Oscars made her look a bit ... top heavy. Which is unfortunate, because look how gorgeous her hair usually looks.

Marcia Gay Harden

Marcia Gay Harden might have walked away from the 2004 Oscars without a win, but she managed to smuggle out a few things under her hair. (She obviously started a trend, based on this celeb's look.) See the braided headband? That's to keep it all from falling out. Tricky, no?

Scarlett Johansson, 2005 Oscars

There are so many things wrong with Scarlett Johansson's amateur updo from the 2005 Oscars, I don't even know where to begin. Yes, it's supposed to be a "vintage" look, but the frizzy curls just look unkempt, the rhinestone clips are overkill, and what's going on with the back of her head? It looks like paper was stapled to her head ... with a million bobby pins.
