Tired of Smokey Eyes? Learn How To Go Bright!

Haven't seen Amy Adams looking gorgeous on our August cover? Check out the photos here. After seeing her pretty eye makeup, created by makeup artist Dick Page ("I wanted to give the eye impact, without going for full smoky," he said, "the purple is just for fun"), we were inspired to try some new shadow colors too.

Are bright eye shadows becoming a trend? How to rock this runway look without looking like you have pinkeye.

"On its own, a bright-colored eyeliner can look a little wacky, so I like to use an eyeliner brush to work black powder shadow into my upper lashline, then I draw a thin stripe of turquoise eyeliner-which I find is more flattering than bolder blues-right above it. This way, you get a little fun color, but your eyes still look defined. My favorite shade is YSL Long-Lasting Eye Pencil in Paradise Blue." -Victoria Kirby, Beauty Editor

"I love heavy black liner, but in the summer it feels sort of strange, and can get smudgy in the heat. Instead, I keep my top lashline bare, and brush a little powder blue shadow like Physician's Formula Shimmer Strips in Blue Eyes under my bottom lashes." -Hannah Morrill, Assistant Editor

"I'm a big fan of wearing smoky eyes for evening, but rather than the traditional charcoal and black, I apply lilac shadow on my lids and a deep purple in the creases. I like Dior 2 Colour High-Contrast Eyeshadow in Purple Look, shown above." -Jessica Prince, Editorial Assistant

"When I use color, I wear earthier tones-especially green. I love the Nars Duo Eye Shadow in Earth Angel. I apply the olive shade all over my lids, and use the taupe color as a highlighter for the inner corners of my eyes and my brow bones." -Kayleigh Donahue, Editorial Assistant
