Spring is here ladies and whether the weather agrees with me or not, just the thought of trading in those sweaters for girly dresses can warm your heart! Just for you ladies, I got the scoop from Tanesha Smith, Bluefly's resident stylist. She shared with me what's hot (and what's not!) and how to look fab this Spring!

MJ: What are some of the new fashion trends for Spring that we ladies should be shopping for? What tips can you give to make sure rock these trends the right way?

TS: It may seem counter-intuitive for spring, but leather is all over the place! Shorts, leggings, and skirts in light weight leathers are the #1 way to show you know what time it is. Head-to-toe denim is a good look too -- just be sure to mix your washes. Speaking of denim, light washes and marble washes are musts.

Military and uniform details like epaulets, pockets, and snaps -- which historically signal structure and order -- somehow feel right for spring's slouchy relaxed vibe.

Now is also the time to try a lingerie detail. You don't have to go all out and wear a see-through shirt (actually seen on the runways), but why not a lacy camisole or a shirt with sheer cut outs or panels?

MJ: I'm noticing that girly-girl dresses are definitely going to be a Spring Trend. How can older woman wear this trend and still look their age?

TS: We can all experiment and play with the various trends. You just have to factor in your body type, age, and let's face it -- bank account. For instance, criminally short mini dresses are all the rage and if you've got the stems, by all means go for it, but they are not for everyone. By keeping an eye on hem lengths, you are sure to find one that challenges your norm, but won't get you arrested (if only by the fashion police). Also, there were many voluminous ruffles on dresses shown for spring. Your daughter, niece, (or YOU, depending) may love the looks of Marc Jacobs, D&G, and Lanvin. As age factors in, the old credo of less being more rings true.

MJ: What are some fashion don'ts that we want to avoid this Spring?

TS: It may be tempting to think that if one trend is good, three must be great. Not true! I would stick with trying out one trend at a time so that you don't look like a brainless fashion sheep with no sense of self. Stay true to yourself so you don't look like you're in costume. Don't wear ill-fitting clothes. It doesn't matter what size you used to wear, face facts and move on sister!

MJ: I know many ladies (like me!) are living on a budget these days. What's an example of a great Spring 2010 outfit for under $50?

Head to the nearest thrift store, like a real thrift store, not a vintage boutique. Grab a shirt dress (or oversized mens shirt), a slouchy tote, some sunglasses, and a straw hat. Don't forget a little sandal or skimmer style sneaker.
