What Fingers Are Best for Applying Makeup

By Makeup Artist Andrea Ducharme, GalTime.com

If you've ever had your makeup done by a professional makeup artist, you know we love to use a lot of different brushes. Still, there are times where I only have three minutes and a few "go to" products on hand. (Ladies, I know you've been there!)

Whether you're looking to pack light, or just want to pare down your beauty routine, here are some techniques the pros use to help blend on-the-go. Beauty is now at your fingertips!

  • Before you get going, here are some rules of thumb: The ring finger offers the lightest touch. The pinky gives you the most control.

  • Always clean your digits first. Wash with soap and water, or use some hand sanitizer. This will prevent bacteria from getting into your makeup and on your face!

  • Grab some creamy concealer. Using your ring finger, dab it onto any areas that need to be evened out or highlighted. Don't forget to add some under your eyes and on your lids. Tap lightly until the product disappears into the skin.

  • Get cheeky with an oil-free cream blush in a pinky-bronze tone. (It's universally flattering.) Using your ring finger, swirl onto the apples of your cheeks, then blend up and out towards your hairline. Using your pinky, add a small amount to the crease of your eyes, and blend up and in towards your nose. This will help to tone and shape your eyes, and will keep the sides from looking too "heavy."
