What Were Your Best Designer Bargains Ever?

The only thing that feels better than digging through your closet for outfits that look great with your new Chloe shoes is knowing you got them for 60% off. I tend to think retail is for suckers, and I can't brag quickly or loudly enough about my bargains. "I like your coat," a complete stranger will say to me. "Seventy five percent off at the Barneys Warehouse sale!" I'll tell them, beaming with pride. So here are some of my recent (and most boast-worthy) designer bargains...(P.S. are you a sales addict?)

Yves Saint Laurent dress

Originally: $2695
I paid: $250 at the sample sale, plus $75 for Madame Paulette to let the hem down. You can wear this dress to pretty much any dressy event imaginable in NYC.

Marc Jacobs high waisted pants from fall 2007

Originally: $985
I paid: $98, at the end-of-season sale. Marc Jacobs always marks things down in the stores as the season draws to a close, eventually bottoming out at 90% off! There are no signs and I've never even seen a tag marked, but I have an editor friend who always gets a phone call and we head down there before anyone else finds out. These are the most beautifully tailored pants I've ever owned! I probably wouldn't have paid much more for them at the time but now they're a totally priceless item in my wardrobe.

Vintage Gucci bag

Originally: I have no idea
I paid: $35!! I bought this at the City Opera Thrift Shop, a great place where rich old ladies donate their furs and designer goods. I love the shape and it always gets compliments!

Chloe wedges

Originally: $645
I paid: $440 at DSW (and now they send me free coupons all the time! Love!)

I know, I know, these were still pricey but I bought myself a present when ABC cut me a check for making a guest appearance as myself on an episode of All My Children (yes, seriously)...it was like free money, so I had to spend it on something frivolous!

So tell me ladies: Have you ever stumbled across an Alaia at your local Loehmann's? Walked out of Saks with $1,500 worth of merchandise for only $400? Come home from the local outlets with a Helmut Lang grabbed from the rack at Neiman Marcus Last Call? I'm dying to hear about your amazing designer bargains...SHARE!
