What’s your favorite men’s scent? Big cats are wild about Obsession

With Father's Day around the corner, today's news story became even more appropriate in my eyes. Apparently Zoos often spray perfumes and colognes to attract and stimulate the animals, as each scent can invoke curiosity and elicit different reactions. The Wall Street Journal reports that back in 2003, Pat Thomas, the general curator for the Wildlife Conservation Society's Bronx Zoo in New York, tested out 24 scents on two cheetahs to see how they were effected by them. While the cheetahs sniffed at Estée Lauder's Beautiful for an average of two seconds, Calvin Klein's Obsession for Men occupied the cats for 11.1 minutes. Obsession is so intoxicating that it reduced a 450-pound Siberian tiger named Sasha to an adorable kitty-cat nuzzling a tree that had been misted with the cologne. Researchers are even using Obsession to lure elusive jaguars closer to their cameras.

So now we know what big cats like, but is Obsession for Men still a home-run for humans? The scent was introduced in 1986, and became a popular cologne with notes of mandarin, sage, musk, sandalwood, and amber and remains a top-seller to this day. I wouldn't want my boyfriend wearing it though, because it reminds me of my dad! It was his favorite cologne all through my adolescence, and I bought it for him for Father's Day and his birthday in the past. I can't wait to tell him how much jaguars and cheetahs love it--he'll definitely get a kick out of that.

As far as other men's fragrances go, I definitely have my favorites. Gucci Envy, Givenchy Pi, Yves Saint Laurent L'Homme, Marc Jacobs, and Viktor & Rolf Antidote, are among my favorites that my boyfriend wears. One scent that I have always hated is Jean Paul Gautier Le Male. One whiff of it conjures up images of greasy haired Jersey guidos, and I run in the opposite direction. I swear, this scent must be the #1 choice by lame dudes at clubs. Yuck.

Anyways, cologne can be a really nice Father's Day gift. Sure, the man may want to pick out his own fragrance, but you're going to be the one smelling him every day! So think like those cheetahs and give him a fragrance you find irresistible. [WSJ]
