Woman pays $175,000 to replicate Carrie Bradshaw's closet

In the latest chapter of rich people who have too much money, a retired Long Island businessman hired "Sex and the City" set designer Lydia Marks to build a replica of "Sex and the City" character Carrie Bradshaw's walk-in closet for his fashionable wife. Marks and her business partner, Lisa Frantz, made over the couple's 400-square-foot guest bedroom into a massive walk-in closet designed to look exactly like Bradshaw's in the first "Sex and the City" movie.

For a cool $175,000, the lucky lady now has storage for 400 designer shoes, dozens of handbags, racks of clothing arranged by designer label, and individual custom-sized compartments to fit her specific sunglasses and beauty tools. "The shoe cabinet is very similar to Carrie's, although our client's is much bigger," Marks told the New York Post. The designers used frosted glass doors with an etched Art Deco patterning and the same strips of hand-beveled mirrored glass from the actual movie closet. The anonymus closet recipient told the Post, "they made my dream come true."

We suppose this is all very impressive, but if you had $175,000 would you spend it on a closet? Or on clothing to goina closet? Also, not to hate on "Sex and the City," because we loved the series, but are people really still trying to emulate Carrie Bradshaw and her possessions today in 2011? Isn't it time we move on from that? Well, perhaps not so fast for the Long Island hubby, who has asked for a matching closet designed to look like Mr. Big's. "We found the lighting for Mr. Big's side of the closet at a lighting supplier who works with yachts," Marks said, of the movie version. "It needed to be sleek and really low profile." Because nothing says "low profile" like a $175,000 closet filled with racks of garments organized by designer.
