Women Who Weigh Less Make More

By Sarah Wexler, Allure magazine

I was none too happy to find out that an afternoon cookie habit could theoretically cost women a shopping spree, a vacation, or a membership to MoMA. Those are all the things that they might not have the extra cash for-if they're an average weight. And average-weight women make less money than thin women, according to a new study from the University of Florida.

I'd read that obese people take a pay hit, but this study says normal women do too. The big winners are the super-thin, women who weigh 25 pounds less than the norm. They're not just making the cost of a new pair of shoes, either; super-thin women earn an average $15,572 a year more than women of normal weight. Even more annoying: it's not true for men. They make more money as they gain weight, as long as they don't cross into obese territory.

Do you think thinner women get ahead in your workplace or field?
