5 Holiday Shopping Tips for Single Moms to Cut Spending and Time

By Ariel Nagi

Your Twitter feed is blowing up with people bragging about the hot new gadgets they're picking up on Black Friday. That sounds like fun, but when you're a single mami the last thing you have time for is camping outside of Best Buy at 1am while freezing your nalgas off. These five holiday shopping tips might as well be called your single mother shopping bible-they'll save you time and money, the two words that pop up more than anything!

1. Get Your Shopping Done Early
Look out for sales throughout the year. If you see something that's a great deal and you know your kids, prima, amiga-whoever-will like it, grab it before the deal is off!

2. Make Craigslist and Your BFF
Craigslist, Ebay, Amazon-these are all sites that should be bookmarked on your laptop. Your kids won't know the difference between a slightly used toy and a new one, but your wallet will!

3. Go Out With the Old and In With the New
Get rid of old toys, clothes, or anything else that's leaving you on the verge of becoming a star on that show Hoarders. The best part about this is that you can sell some of these items and end up with extra cash for new gifts.

4. Follow the Freebies Hashtag on Twitter
#Freebies is the best thing to happen to Twitter besides the juicy arguments we see between celebs all the time (can we say Kim K. and Demi Moore plus Rihanna and Chris Brown??). Type in this hashtag to discover free stuff that you can turn into kickass gifts.

5. Sign Up For Newsletters From Your Favorite Stores
If you don't have time to become the coupon queen and clip away, the easiest thing to do is sign up for email newsletters and text alerts from your favorite stores. They'll send you online and in-store coupon codes that are simple to use and save you from buying the Sunday paper!
